WAFC League Rain Policies
Now that the Summer Leagues are in full swing, as is the weather, we wanted
to remind everyone of WAFC's rain policy. These policies are in place not
just to protect the fields, but to show our dedication to the various park
services of our willingness to respect the fields. In many cases, our
ability to get fields depends on our relationship with the park services,
and the more we are liked, the more likely we are to get fields.
The following rules apply in all WAFC leagues and must be followed.
---If there is visible lightning, regardless of distance, the game is over,
immediately, even in the middle of a point. There are documented
incidences, in ultimate, of players being seriously injured and killed from
lightning strikes. In order to ensure everyone's safety, all players are
obligated to assist in enforcing this policy.
---Due to the varied location of games in summer league, the discretion of
whether or not to play will largely rest on the discretion of the various
captains. In order to make this decision, consider the following factors.
- The specific field's policy (as indicated on the permit).
- If playing COULD result in damage to the field, DO NOT PLAY.
- If there is ANY standing water on the playing field, DO NOT PLAY.
- If it is actively raining, DO NOT PLAY (if you see people with umbrellas
up, that's a good indication you shouldn't play).
---Captain's should agree in advance about what they will do in event of
rain, or possibility of rain. If you don't have a co-captain, and will not
be at a game, designate someone on your team to make the decision on your
behalf.
---At this time, only Bluemont has an active hotline for weather, if your
game is there, please call 703-228-4715.
---Rec League is using the Hotline for weather, if in doubt about your game,
call 301-LUV-BMAX (301-588-2629).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the
WAFC Board for clarification of this policy, which will be posted on WAFC's
website.
