    Summer Rec League - 2007

    WHEN?
Rec League is played on during the week, after work. Games probably will start at 6:30PM. (mostly Tuesday and Friday evenings) with 1 or 2 weekend games.  The season will culminate with a full weekend tournament on August 4th & 5th.

    WHERE?
    Games locations vary.

    WHO'S IN CHARGE?
A captains meeting will take place before the season begins. If you want to be a captain please click the "Captain" box on the registration form. We could use your help!! Please stay tuned for date and time. Questions regarding the league please send to "wafcrecgods at yahoogroups dot com". Please, please only send e-mail if this is a last resort. We are rather overwhelmed by the amount of e-mails!! Julie Serfass can also help you if you see her on the fields.

    HOW?
Please see registration. Cost is $25. Questions regarding payments please send an e-mail to "wafcfee@hotmail.com". Registration is now over

WHAT DO I WEAR & BRING?
Please get cleats if you do not have them. You will find they will help you tremendously especially on a muddy field. In the beginning you should bring a light and dark shirt until your team comes up with a color. Bring a frisbee, water, gatorade and a light and dark shirt. As you might know summers in DC are extremely hot. Bring ALOT of water!! Plan to sweat. Do not make plans for dinner immediately following with your in-laws or people that you are trying to impress.

    WHAT EXACTLY IS REC LEAGUE?
The Recreational league is for those without an established team. Don’t let the word "Recreational" fool you, though. The fact of the matter is that the Recreational league is plenty competitive; it’s just that it is organized with newer players in mind. It is meant to give them a chance to compete against players of similar skill and experience. Of course, if you are an experienced player, you are still welcome in the Recreational league, as long as you are willing to play by our rules. What rules, you ask? Ideally, you would be willing to serve as a team captain, if needed. As a captain/coach, you would be responsible for teaching new players how the game is played and making the game environment less intimidating than it otherwise might be. And, even if you are not able to commit to being a captain, as a "pro" in the Recreational league, you would still be expected to promote a positive learning atmosphere for your teammates. You’d also be expected to actively include them in the flow of the game. In other words, be nice and actually throw to them... or risk being asked to leave the Recreational League.

    WHO'S GOT SPIRIT?
Ultimate frisbee relies heavily on the "Spirit of the Game". Please read more on the UPA web site about this. http://www1.upa.org/spirit

Rec league captains at the end of the season will choose one player on the team who exhibits true "spirit". This player will receive a special spirit disc.

We also will be announcing a team spirit award to be given out at the WAFC party at the end of the season. Team spirit will be judged on fashion, cheers, name, and sportmanlike conduct.
